BGC Dancer Testimonials: Hear from Our Talented Performers

  • Dance has been part of my life since I can remember! Dance brings me so much joy! 6 years ago I decided to join a salsa dance team for the first time and that took my dancing to the next level. It’s challenging but so rewarding! Fast forward to now, I’m still in a team, dancing with BGC Dance Co. and I’ve been loving every minute of it!

  • BGC's season has been a great experience. Becca cultivates a space that I feel safe enough to challenge myself and still feel supported by her and the rest of the team. I am so grateful to be surrounded by other hard-working people that also enjoy music and dance as much as me

  • It was so helpful getting back into conditioning in a supportive environment where I could refresh my proper dance technique, work on memorizing choreography again and to top it off performing with this team of ladies was a blast! Becca's choreography and vision for our Latin Fusion piece was inspiring!

  • BGC really set a high standard for me and challenged me to raise the bar for myself. Becca is as fantastic a teacher as she is a choreographer. If you’re willing to learn, she’ll make sure you learn. It’s a joy to be able to learn from someone who focuses on such a high level of detail, technique, precision and performance skills. Thrilled to have made new friends with a group of like-minded women!!

  • Since I immigrated to the US I had not been able to dance until I decided to audition for BGC Dance Company and it was definitely the best decision of my 2022, I am so grateful to be in this team that supports and loves each other so much. Dancing with them makes me feel free, happy and powerful.

  • It was an honor to share the love of dance with my talented team members and perform under the Space Needle in front of such a large audience…So many memorable moments, I was so happy for days after that…it was a great reminder of why I LOVE dancing so much. I felt honored to be in the presence of wonderful and powerful ladies, who all share the same passion for dance. I admire how positive and loving the team is. Becca, our fearless leader, has created an atmosphere that is truly wonderful.

  • I didn’t grow up training in studios nor did I have access to studio training but Becca made turns and kicks accessible and less scary for adult street dancers like myself. I take classes in other styles and go into those with confidence knowing I have some technical foundations from BGC training. I loved performing our piece in front of people. Nothing makes me happier than hearing stories of how people were inspired to take dance classes or return to dance as an adult because they saw our performance.

  • While I’m more known to focus my dance training on bachata, my Latin partner dance journey started with salsa. Once I found out that the song choice for this season was a mix of Bad Bunny’s hits from his new album, I knew I had to perform this piece, even if it was salsa! I felt very rusty in my salsa at the start of the season, but I wanted to step up to this challenge. It was a blast learning a new salsa fusion piece that incorporated reggaeton (one of my fave genres) and Afro-Cuban styles that I had just learned! It was hard work to learn such a cardio-heavy piece to a genre I don’t feel necessarily super confident in. In the end, it felt less like a challenge and more like having fun dancing with my teammates to some Bad Bunny salsa hits. I’m proud of myself for sticking with it and giving this salsa my all! I couldn’t have done it without the support from Becca, Tanya and my teammates <3 <3

  • I am proud of myself for learning new moves and new styles of dance and then dedicating myself to perform and not just learn in a class. This was my first time in a salsa performance and learning reggaeton and Afro-Cuban. Taking the time not just for practice but to learn the moves myself on a higher level for the performance went beyond classes I normally take to learn social dance. The energy of the moves, the music, and performing with the whole group on stage was electrifying!

  • This season, I’m proud that I stepped out of my comfort zone and took on two new dance styles—Bachata and Salsa fusion—on a performance team with three amazing, women-focused coaches. Becca promotes positivity, offers encouragement, and, along with Ana and Tanya, has built a sisterhood that is all support and zero drama. I’m so thankful and blessed to be part of this team, and I truly felt welcomed from day one. I’ve always believed you’re never too old to dance—if a grandmother of six can do it, so can you!

  • This season, my main goal was to build core strength and stability. By adding more consistent and intentional workouts outside of rehearsal, I was able to advance in techniques I had struggled with in past seasons. I noticed a huge difference, not just in my dancing, but also in my confidence! I’m really proud of myself for staying committed and following through.I’m also incredibly proud of how the dance turned out. Getting to represent my culture through salsa, reggaeton AND Afro-Latin dance, set to a Bad Bunny mix (thank you DJ Kelly Sparks 🙏🏼🕊️), was beyond exciting! It was a meaningful accomplishment and truly a dream come true. By the end of the season, I could perform the choreography with ease, and that felt empowering!💃🏻🇵🇷✨

  • It’s been a handful of seasons now that I’ve danced with Becca and the BGC team, and I love taking time to reflect at the end of each one. With every season, my appreciation for Becca and this incredible community of strong women she has brought together only grows deeper. This season, she once again welcomed new, fresh faces who added even more strength and energy to the group. Our routine reached a new level of complexity and challenge, and every single dancer rose to the occasion—mastering a stunning contemporary salsa.I feel truly blessed to have been part of yet another season and to have gained even more friendships within this amazing community.

  • Dancing with resilience means moving through life‘s challenges with grace, power and unwavering spirit. It’s more than steps, it is a declaration: we are still here, still rising. I dance because it is how I express love for myself, but I never forget this sisterhood that I am constantly wrapped in love and held by. Every beat becomes healing, every synchronized movement is a reminder that we are not alone. Together, strength, softness, and unbreakable bonds carry us forward. I am most proud of our resilience. Tongues out, ass poppin’, & LIBERATED.

  • I've always found it easy to be playful with more casual, non-choreographed dance, but I struggle with technical routines that require maintaining formations. During my first season with BGC, I'm proud of how I grew to enjoy the performances and express my personality. It took some practice, but I felt much more confident and playful by the final show. I'm excited to see my progress continue in future seasons! I'm incredibly thankful to the team and directors for their support and for helping me build my confidence.

  • I’m proud of when we performed for the first time at the Friends and Family event. I’m proud of the consistency in time and effort of everyone on the team and getting to hear about how polished and amazing it looked from my Mom who hadn’t seen any of the choreography prior.

  • There are so many moments from this season that I am proud of, but I think I’m most proud of showing up for myself over and over again. There were many times this season that I doubted myself. This dance is so hard! It’s fast, it involves lots of dance styles that are brand new to me, and I kept messing up the same moves over and over, even with practice. Near the end of the season, each of us on the team performed a solo for each other. Hearing my team hype me up and compliment me on the moves I thought were the hardest made me realize that all the challenges I pushed through had turned into growth, confidence, and a performance I could truly be proud of.

  • I’m so proud of improving my body movement each season. For this past one, our piece had a lot of Afro-Cuban movements that were challenging for me, and I wanted to get it right. I spent time practicing the guaguancó and I felt more confident to dance it by the time we performed! I’m so grateful for BGC to challenge and push me, and for Becca to make time to support me and help me grow.

  • This season was truly special. The way the team came together and moved with such incredible synchronization was inspiring. There was a strong sense of unity, and it felt like we were all in tune, not just physically, but emotionally as well.On a personal level, I’m really grateful for the growth I experienced. I began to find my own style and finally started breaking down the walls I had built around myself. Going into the season, I wanted to prove to myself that I was capable, and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone played a big part in that journey. One of the most rewarding parts was learning to let go, just allowing myself to be fully present and express who I am through movement. That freedom felt amazing, and it taught me so much about trust, vulnerability, and self-expression.

  • This season for me was about stepping (tip toeing?) outside of my comfort zone and I think I did well! I got to try new styles of dance that pushed my body in a different way. I also got to be surrounded by amazing women who gracefully challenged me in multiple different ways which I am so grateful for.

  • It feels like just yesterday when I showed up to my first BGC rehearsal during the fall of 2023! I blinked and four seasons have flown by already. I love reflecting on how I felt during my first season versus how my BGC experience feels today. I'm so proud of how much I've grown in my dancing and performing, which also feels like a reflection of me growing in life too! ☺️ It's been a dream of mine to get to a point where I can connect with the audience while staying present in both my body and dance experience, instead of getting lost in my head, and this was the first season where I felt so present on the dance floor during each performance. I remember seeing so many friendly faces in the audience and laughing in the middle of my performances, because I just felt happy and was having fun! It's like night and day thinking about my first times performing during my first season, when I felt caught up in fear of how my dancing would be perceived and judged, and now it feels like dancing to express myself and a chance to share who I am with others. 🤗

  • Oh, just casually surviving my first-ever dance in heels without face-planting, landing on my butt, or accidentally self-eliminating. Honestly, a major win for me against gravity. But honestly? Being part of such an awesome team and seeing how in sync we got by the end — it just made me go Weee every time I think about it. We really did that!

  • One of the best memories I have is during the video and photo shoot. The love, support and encouragement during the shoot was so inspiring. BGC isn’t just a regular dance group but a dance family with mutual appreciation, goodwill towards one another. This is what makes this community strong and wonderful.

  • Nobody could have prepared me for the experience of shaking my a$$ in a musical pause in front of hundreds of people. The way the crowd went wild every time will be a proud moment of mine forever! Aside from that, learning two routines this season and dancing in heels for the first time were both big accomplishments for me. I’m grateful to the team and the directors for making such a safe and supportive space for us to try new things! Stretching myself and my skills through mastering new BGC routines has led to so much growth in myself and in my dancing. And, the last thing I’m proud of…all the costume quick changes I pulled off! And I couldn’t have done any of it without the help of my team <3

  • I’m really proud of how we all put our heart & emotion into this piece and danced it as a collective. There’s so many different things going on in this piece, and sometimes it can be really easy to focus on how you’re doing and how you look as an individual but this was one where we really had to pay attention to what everyone else is doing and adjust to match it. It was also a season of a lot of challenges for us, both as individuals and a collective society and the way we all showed up for & supported each other through it all is something that makes me so proud & thankful to be part of the BGC community.

  • Early on in learning the choreography for this season, somebody asked our fabulous teachers Tanya and Becca what the general vibe was of our team’s dance, and they both broke into so much booty shakin’ swag, our whole team got lifted up. This was big energy, with a zing. Right then I realized I’d joined the grrl group~dance troupe of my dreams. We spent the season making hard work fun, and exploring different dance forms and inspirations that fit together into our song and through our movements to grow us into the hype team we got to become together. It was such an honor and a blast to get to open for BGC’s first showcase, and bring that energy we’d been building for months to the room and let it shine out. My cup got filled in so many ways by joining Expression, dancing with these amazing women, and taking on the challenges we were given to grow, let loose, and get down.

  • My favorite rehearsal was at an extra practice we had at ATD and it was a small and quiet moment but a very impactful & meaningful moment meant just for me. There was a moment during one of our run throughs with music that I got in my head a little too much ( as I tend to do sometimes 😬 ) and messed up on the choreo and kind of began to stop and give up on myself but my beautiful friend Steph happened to be next to me in formation change and saw/felt my energy of giving up and she instantly said in soft voice to me," kae, you got this" with the love and support behind her voice I felt in that moment I knew I couldn't give up on myself and to push through and to remember how hard I've worked on this routine with brand new styles I've never done before.I continue to learn how to speak and see myself with kinder eyes and even though I have my moments of being to hard on myself- I'm blessed with these beautiful moments of a reminder✨️🙏🏼 from one of the best communities/team of women I've ever had the privilege to have been apart of. I'm so grateful to have been welcomed into this beautiful BGC Ohana and sisterhood 🌺

  • BGC has THE most wholesome and supportive community. I have so many examples to pull from, but one that sticks out is the time I got sick and had to miss our first performances. I was finally well by our final performance and walked in to so many hugs and cheers from my teammates. And when I told them I was nervous, they knew just what to do to help pump me up and calm me down.

  • My favorite moment is the video shoot and photoshoot we did. I was so nervous going into it and stumbled through a few runs but once I got my jitters out, everything just felt right. I haven’t felt energy like that in a long time as a dancer. We were all in sync and I had a blast. Having Rhya cheer us on from the sidelines really helped too! BGC is a uniquely uplifting community and I am so excited to have finally completed my first season with them.

  • It’s hard to choose just one, but a standout memory for me was during an extra practice session. It was the first time I had strung all of the pieces together to see the full routine come together, and the excitement and hype in the room was electrifying! After each run we’d all jump up and down and yell about how great the piece was looking. Everyone was helping each other out to clean different parts, and it really felt like we were all there to boost everyone else up. I left that practice feeling so good to be part of such a loving and talented team.

  • Whenever Becca and Rhya were teaching their choreography, they lifted up the entire room with so much positivity. The way they mix up training with humor helped remind me to not be so serious and into my head about perfecting things, and to live in the fun of dancing. It also made learnings memorable - I'll always remember not to dig for clams on a Suzie Q. The video shoot was also a wonderful memory because everyone from all three teams were so supportive of each other. It was as much about celebrating yourself as celebrating your teammates.
