Audition FAQs
Questions? Drop us a line at bgcdanceseattle@gmail.com
-
Do I need to prepare anything for auditions?
No! All choreography will be taught at the audition, no need to prepare any solos or other pieces.
-
How does the audition work?
Think of it as an extended workshop with a video at the end! The first 30 minutes will be a warm up, isolations, and stretching. We will then move into a technique section and end learning a combination. We will finish the audition by videoing each dancer doing the combo in groups. You only need to attend one audition slot to be eligible for team membership.
After all the auditions for all the teams are finished, BGC leadership will send out results via email.
-
I'm not a salsa or bachata dancer, can I still audition?
Yes! Having salsa or bachata dance experience definitely will help your chances. However, if you are a mover in other styles and show an aptitude for salsa or bachata you still have a very good chance of making the teams.
-
How is parking at the studios?
Dance Underground can get a little busy, but there’s free street parking close by. Seven Star Women’s Kung Fu has lots of free street parking available.
-
How many years of experience do I need?
For intermediate teams, we typically seek dancers with a minimum of 2+ years of experience, and for advanced teams, 5+ years. However, less experience does not preclude auditioning; these are benchmarks for expected skill levels.
-
Are these partnerwork or footwork teams?
They are all footwork teams, each dancer will dance individually. There will be no partnerwork in this season's choreographies.
-
How does the video audition work?
You will receive an email with instructions after you sign up for the video audition option!
-
How is the season structured?
The Fall season runs September–January, and the Spring season runs February–June. Each includes 3 months of rehearsals, a professional video/photo shoot, and local performances. Dancers can opt-in to travel to 1–2 festivals at the end of the season and encore shows during the break between seasons.
-
I'm worried about team tuition, should I still audition?
Absolutely! We offer scholarships to help with tuition, travel, and other costs on an as-needed basis. If you pass the audition, you’ll receive scholarship details with your season info.
What do I need for Auditions?

Be sure to bring:
- A water bottle
- Clothes you're comfortable moving in
- Dance shoes or socks
- Your smile!
Make sure to arrive 5-10 minutes early to check in, especially for your first class as there will be a waiver you'll need to sign before starting class.
